Based on the corpus of news discourses in Macau and Mainland,this article studies the lexical differences in the two places. The research of two similar-sized samples from the corpus shows that there are great differences in lexical frequency, distinct usage of shared words,unique local words,polysemy,words in the same form but with different parts of speech and so on. The differences have much to do with the language policy of "three official written languages and four spoken languages",and the special geographical,political,economic and cultural factors in Macau. The particle "LE"is studied as a case to probe the pragmatic driven force behind the lexical differences. It is pointed out that the frequency differences of "LE"are related to the tendency of narrative perspectives in the news discourses of the two places.
