Radiogram is a typical text composed very coherently by seamen when ats sea. Mastering its content is a challenge to mariners in assuring a safe voyage. In this paper, we prove that radiogram is a form of business letter. Besides, w analyze its structures with an aim to differentiate its from other types of business letters.

Seamen apply a number of ways to bild ship-to-ship & ship-to-shore communication. Among these, radiogram plays the unique role when the ship is at sea. To save both money and time, the text of the radiogram must be short and clear. Futhermore, the text should be coherent to avoid misunderstanding. Ellipese, substitution and abbreviation have been widely used in radiograms to create the shortest possible text.
