The paper examines Mongolian people’s attitude towards Mongolian and Chinese from the perspectives of integrative motivation, instrumental motivation and bilingual learning attitude,with the type of residence into consideration. It is found that the degree of identity with both languages is higher in the Mongolian community than among the scattered inhabitants both from the aspects of instrumental motivation and integrative motivation. In terms of bilingual learning attitude,the degree of interest in Mongolian is higher in the Mongolian community than among the scattered inhabitants. Therefore,type of residence is an important factor in influencing bilingual learning attitude.

The paper surveys the Chinese names of international students from Zhejiang University from the aspects of pronunciation, selection of characters,culturalconnotation,relations between mother tonguenames and Chinese names, and country-specific characteristics. It is found that the Chinese names of international students have a transliteration tendency,and most of the names do not have any cultural connotation. In addition,their Chinese names should be further standardized. The paper also investigates the ideal Chinese names of international students by questionnaires,which provide evidences for the improvement of their names.
