The exposition is an important mechanism and means to promote the commodities economy and the market development in the modern era,playing an extremely significant role in the international economic and cultural exchanges.With rejuvenating the commerce as its duty,the chamber of commerce went through a process of transition from a supporting player into a leading one while it changed from a passive participant to an active one.The participation of the chamber of commerce in the late Qing Dynasty included two types:attending the international expositions overseas and hosting the regional or national commodities exhibition.In particular,it played a leading and active role in preparing and hosting China’s first national exhibition,i.e.,Nanyang Industrial Exposition(1910),making great contributions to its success.In addition,the chamber of commerce also played a vital role in helping the government to host the commodities exhibition in different regions.
