As more foreign words and phrases are used in Japanese, such phenomenon as Japanizing or altering foreign words started to appear. This article surveys the phonetic, semantic and morphological changes of foreign words of Indian-European origins used in Japanese language, as well as methods of Japanizing them.

Bài báo phân tích quan niệm của F.de Saussure về cái biểu đạt và cái được biểu đạt. Trong tiếng Pháp, F.de Saussure gọi cái biểu đạt là ‘signifiant’, cái được biểu đạt là ‘signifié’. Ông quan niệm ‘signifiant’ là hình ảnh âm thanh, ‘signifié’ là khái niệm hay ý nghĩa (sense) của đơn vị ngôn ngữ. Tác giả đã phê phán quan niệm đó và làm sáng tỏ hai khái niệm cái biểu đạt và cái được biểu đạt trong ngôn ngữ học, tránh sự đồng nhất cái được biểu đạt với ý nghĩa của đơn vị ngôn ngữ.

The article focuses on researching and analyzing the significant phonetic characteristics of Chinese interjections in contract to Vietnamese ones. Through the analysis of practical examples using the Praat software, the article has proved thats the tones of Chinese and Vietnamese interjections are peculiar, which are very fifferent from the tones of other kinds of words in the same language system. When used in the utterance, under the influence of intonation, the tone of interjections in the Chinese and Vietnamese language can create different variations. Accordingly, the article also proposes a number of applications relating to the phonetic characteristics in the teaching of Chinese interjection.

Learners with reading and/or spelling difficulties (RSD) generally also show severe problems in learning EFL. Taking into consideration several observational and interventional studies, this article illustrates some practical and pragmatic means of identifying RSD, and provides possible solutions when addressing these difficulties in ELT classrooms. Among these approaches are the explicit teaching of grapheme–phoneme rules; taking into account possible mother tongue interference; building a frequency-based basic vocabulary; and multisensory language teaching/learning.
