As a focus of attention in linguistically oriented translation studies, the concept of equivalence has engendered lots of discussions. This paper offers a semantic componential analysis of how equivalent value is achieved by giving consideration to the semantic elements, structures and relationship involved in the process of translation rather than to other equivalence-related concerns. It holds that semantic correspondence has to be justified by shared semantic components, structures and relationship between the TL and the SL texts.
