The paper randomly sampled students from two private schools in Dongguan and carried out a questionnaire research complemented by follow-up interviews.It is found that children of migrant workers in Dongguan speak mainly Mandarin and hometown dialects,while the percentage of them speaking Cantonese,the dominant local dialect,is very low. The Places where they were born and brought up before primary school are important factors on their languageuse.
