For the last sixty years, and especially since the recent three decades, there have been noticeable transitions in mainland Chinese scholars’ study of the wartime Kuomintang( KMT) :First, the general evaluation of the wartime governance has shifted from overall negation to partial affirmation; Second, the focus of wartime-KMT studies has turned from top-level clique struggles in the KMT to its grass-root power structures; Third, studies of wartime KMT-CPC( the Communist Party of China) relations have now involved the KMT’s attitude towards the CPC,rather than taking as the mere subject matter the significant changes brought forth by the CPC’s United Front strategies; Fourth, since around 1990 s,as a major force in the War,China’s international role and status during the WWII has now been reflected upon; and,Fifth, the research on the wartime democratic movements, traditionally focused on the CPC’s guidance and leadership only, has now been turning to the existence of the third force, and to the existence of various forces from within the KMT Party and their influence upon as well as their support to the democratic movements
