This paper proposes a composite criterion for term translation by taking into serious consideration this specialized genre’s systematic property.Supported by findings from a comparative study of established Chinese terms of linguistics and their English counterparts,the author suggests that a law of "systematic economy" be established as an overriding principle in the translation of technical terms.
