Using the manuscripts of Fu Lei’s translation of “Le curé de Tours” written by Honoré de Balzac as the text for analysis and through investigating and exploring the dynamic process of lit¬erary translation revealed by Fu Lei’s first translation, the revised translation and the final manu¬script, this paper argues that Fu Lei is a translator with a high spiritual pursuit and a strong sense of mission. It then proposes that throughout his translating and revising work, Fu Lei advocates "faithfulness” in translation and insists that translation be a work of art through repeated revisions. Last but not least, the paper demonstrates that it is putting his spiritual and artistic pur¬suit into his translation practice that makes Fu Lei a translation giant of our time.
