Learner-centered approach may work well in Western societies. However, in an Eastern culture like Vietnam, the approach is not as successful as expected by educators. In Vietnam, due to the influence of philosophical traditions, especially those of Confucianism, hierarchy remains an important part of social life. This paper probes further into problems that the learner-centered approach is inclined to face and suggests some solutions from a cultural perspective.
