Một số chiến lược giảm nhẹ tranh cãi trong gia đình người Mỹ = Some mitigating strategies in American family disputes / Nguyễn Thị Việt Nga.
// Tạp chí Khoa học Ngoại ngữ 2014, Số 38. 2014.tr. 81-92. Disputes in general and family disputes in particular are commonly perceived as sequentially accomplished by the interlocutors via successive exchanges of oppositional moves. However, it is only one side of the battle if we only view any dispute as ‘confrontational’ because disputants may also resort to some strategies to mitigate the dispute despite being agitated while always trying their best to protect their own propositions. This study’s findings suggest that in family disputes, participants not only use oppositional moves, but also cooperative moves and these two kinds of strategies are alternated successively. Such dispute-relief strategies are considered signals that an interlocutor seeks to put an end to any dispute instead of fueling its adverse effects. This article is aimed at pointing out and analyzing some strategies that American family members employ to alleviate their disputes.
