The article examines the expressions of fatal sadness and sorrow which people experienced in the war, in living in Trinh Cong Son lyrics. “Down – oriented sadness” metaphor has been used by Trinh Cong Son to describe his smart sensitive observation and enthusiastic compassionate feelings for surrounding people and their life. Sadness in Trinh Cong Son lyrics is highlighting by his unique style in using language and music.

Adjective nominalizations are popular in both Vietnamese and English. The article highlights the differences and similarities of adjective nominalizations in Vietnamese and English, and the nominalizers, and methods of adjective nominalizations in the languages as well. The comparison is intended to help teachers and student who are teaching or learning Vietnamese and English have a more thorough view of the different characteristics of the two language forms as well as differences in cognitive thinking between Vietnamese and English native speakers. This can be applied in the process of learning to speak and to write in order to get more precise and consistent by language learners.
