The last two years have witnessed the introduction of English – based teaching of Mathematics and other scientific subjects in the upper-secondary schools for gifted students in some major cities in Vietnam, as a response to one of the aims of the Scheme for Teaching and Learning Foreign Language in the National Education system 2008-2020. This article analyzes both the chances and the challenges involved with this initiation in the current social background in general and foreign-language-education background in particular.
