On 19 November 2018, at the sixth plenary session, the 14th National Assembly of Vietnam ratified the amended Higher Education Law, which will come into effect as from July 2018. The two most crucial issues in this law include the autonomy of higher education institutions and the authority of these institutions in administering new training programs. In relation to the current foreign-language-related professional training practices in general and the French-related professional training practices in particular among Vietnamese universities and colleges, the ratification of this law will open new opportunities for reforming training programs, which have a deep connection with labor market needs, in order that they become more learner-centered in essence.
