An idiom is a fixed expression with stable structural pattern that has a complete, figurative meaning. Idioms are widely used in daily communication, particularly in informal language. Because of its syntactic and semantic features, an idiom clearly reflects ways of thinking, socio-cultural identities, natural and social contexts of the users. In this article, we hope to provide a new approach to Thai national identity through idioms containing ‘water’, thus, widen the knowledge of readers about Thai culture and people.
