The foundation of this mataphor is the way people experiece tastes in the space: up-down, in-out, related to the conception of “Food”: 1,Formed food is up, runined food is down; 2,Good food is up; 3, Strong taste is up, insipid taste is down; 4, Being full is up, being hungry is down. This metaphor once again affirms the role of conceptual metaphor towards the perception, thought; reflects the characteristic of Vietnamese cultuer.

As a result of our research, there are four types of metaphors in “Truyen Kieu” (Kieu Tale) of Nguyen Du, fiery nature points to anger; anger means being out of control, anger is a strong feeling of displeasure or the change shape of body parts and anger symbolized by fire. In each of these metaphors, the irradiation of source areas to target areas is appropriate to the perception of human beings and reflects national identity as well.

The conceptual metaphor LIFE IS A JOURNEY expressing Xuan Quynh’s ways of thinking about life through features pertaining to journey such as the travelers, the vehicle, the journey, the distance covered, the obstacles encountered, decisions about which way to go, and the destination of the journey.
