The real world is basically the same but the way people perceive it differently in diffirent countries. This is clearly reflected in human language which is not coincided between nations. However, the peculiarties of thought and language are not sufficiently oresented in dictionaries. That is why, it is neccessary for us to study on this proplem to get profound understanding of semantics of words. The group of words concentrated on this paper are spatial adjectives with vertical length such as high, tall, deep, thick in English and cao, sâu dày in Vietnamese. Since English and Vietnamese people structure the world in a different way so when learning English, Vietnamese learners are easily confused when using these spatial adjectives. Due to the framework of the paper and the sense of the magazine “ Language and Life”, the writer only focuses on several typical but interesting examples concerning the diffirent cognition about the real world. The other aspects in the domain of high learning and academic knowledge are not analyzed in details so that readers can catch the idea of the writing without any difficulty.

This paper investigated conceptual metaphors of “fire” in American and Vietnamese 20th century poetry. Then, it found out some similarities and differences in conceptual metaphors of “fire” in the two languages. Moreover, this research hopes to be an inspiration to those who are interested in conceptual metaphour in poetry, especially those of fire.

En quoi l'analyse des pratiques sociales et professionnelles d'information peut‑elle enrichir les définitions du document telles qu'elles sont posées par les sciences de l'information et de la communication et renouveler leur approche ? À partir de plusieurs contextes d'observation dans le cadre de projets de recherche, la classe, des espaces professionnels, l'atelier, on constate que les attentes sociales et l'activité font du document un espace co-construit, structurant l'organisation de l'information et sa gestion. Le document, en tant qu'espace dialogique, devient alors un moyen de formalisation des activités en jeu au regard des positionnements, des représentations et des finalités projetées. Sur la base de ces recherches, il est permis d'envisager un complément aux définitions actuelles du document, qui ne se focalise pas seulement sur son contenu mais sur les modalités de son élaboration et sur son rôle dans la construction des apprentissages.
