// Ngôn ngữ. 2014, Số 5 (300). 2014tr. 3-10. There are two types of standard: the ideal and practice ones. Rules of ideal standard must be, on the first level, absolutely correct in every case or, on the second level, accepted by everyone. Rules of practical standard are correct in most cases with very few exceptions and accepted by most people. This paper proves that there is no ideal standard for orthography. No rules can be applied to the “chat” language. In the paper, the provided examples of rules in choosing “i” or “y”, writing proper names, and spelling loanwords will demonstrate the practical standard.

This paper interprets Chí Phèo and Le Petit Prince from a semiotics point of view.A series of word-symbol,especially the contrary pair,are repeated multiple times to express the meaning of both stories.In Chí Phèo, it is the pair of conscious/drunk. This is to show the contrast between an innocent man [conscious] and a “convolutes” man who has become calculative and interested in pursuing meaningless desires [drunk].These desires appesr in very path he takes whichs also symbolizes his life.It also symbolizes for the subconscious development from the lack-of-awareness to recognition .In Le Petit Prince, it is the pair of chils/adult. This symbolizes a conscious quest for the real meaning of life,just to realize that it is all around us.

// Ngôn ngữ và đời sống 2015, Số 5 (312) 20159-33 tr. This paper introduces the key issues of scalar implicature. There are many scalars in languages. These scalars establish many possible implicatures. Studies show that the Cooperative Principle of Grice could not explain all the different phenomena of scalar implicatuers. Meanwhile, the Relevanc Principle of Sperber and Wilson turns ou to be an effective tool. Many subsequent researchers such as Horn and Lewinson and other have modified Grice s theory. This paper develops some specific structures of empty words in Vietnammese. These play a key role in conveying scalar implicatures, especially those with extreme implicatons.
