Tóm tắt
Tóm tắt Two major determining factors underlying the development of teaching Chinese as a second language in Australia are Australia’s official language policy with special reference to LOTE,and variety and scale of influx of immigrants and students from Chinese-speaking countries and regions. Chinese has been designated by government as a priority language since 1980s,and has enjoyed a steady increase in enrolment in school and university. However, much of the increase comes from students of ethnic Chinese background, which poses both as a challenge and an opportunity for Chinese language teachers and policy makers in Australia.
