| "林则徐致英国女王照会"是中国近代外交史上的重要文件。经过文本比对发现,"林则徐照会"的四个早期英译本分别出自两个不同底本。而清代官府文献均记载林则徐仅曾一次照会英国女王。本研究以道光皇帝相关上谕、林则徐相关奏章为依据,佐以《广州番鬼录》中所录林则徐照会初稿,论证了该照会早期译本所据底本之一乃是一份假捏版照会英国国王书,从而论证"林则徐两次照会英国女王"说乃讹误之说。 . | |

| Commissioner Lin’s undelivered Letter to Queen of England is an important document in China’s modern diplomatic history.A close reading of the texts finds that the four early English versions of Commissioner’s Letter were translated from two different source texts.All official docu~ments,however,recorded that Commissioner Lin Zexu sent only one letter to the Queen.Basing itself on related Edicts and Memorials as well as the early draft of the Letter quoted in the book Fankwae at Canton before Treaty Days,this research proves that one of the source texts of the early English versions is a fabricated Letter to Queen of England,thus invalidating the widelyaccepted statement"Lin Zexu wrote two letters to Queen of England". | |
