Tóm tắt Contemporary use of the Vietnamese language among the youth, which tends to be criticized by their elders as “distorted” , has been a big matter of concern. Therefore, the question regarding why this kind of “distorted” Vietnamese has become more and more popular with young people and whether it will negatiely affect the purity of the Vietnamese language or not will be discussed in this article. An investigation into social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Blog, etc.), online forums and everyday conversation shows a different “kind” of language used by young people in the country. There still exist contradictory views toward this “kind” of language, but the paper argues that this is acceptable as long as Vietnamese national charateristics are respected and preserved.
