| Hongloumeng is famous for its being broad in conception and meticulous in details,as well as equipped with diversiform literary forms. The poems(and their variants) ever appeared in this book are of different structures and colorful and varied in postures. Given the complexity of poetry translation,these poems constitute many a difficulties for the translation of this great works. In the process of translating Hongloumeng,David Hawkes upholds his principle to"translate everything in the book——even the puns",in an attempt to represent the poetic features and aesthetic style of the original poems(and their variants) at many levels,including rhythm,rhyme,stanza and line to the maximum degree,forging a model translation of"rendering poems with poems",which wins unanimous applauses from the readership and critic circle at home and abroad. | |
