According to the statistic of all the existing works of Cao Cao,there are 26 times of quoting The Book of Songs,which not only embodies Cao Cao’s inheritance of the tradition of quoting The Book of Songs,but also prominently reveals Cao Cao’s contributions to the development of the tradition of quoting The Book of Songs by previous generation scholars in some ways,such as the form of quotation,the context and the way and degree of emotional participation.Cao Cao’s contributions mainly reflects in these aspects:less direct quotations,more general references;less practical quotations,more literary references.And Cao Cao’s quoting The Book of Songs put more attention on emotional color and aesthetic characteristics which makes great influence on scholars at that time and later.Because Cao Cao was deeply influenced by both the traditional factors and the ideas in the new era.So examined from a historical angel,the quoting of The Book of Songs in Cao Cao’s creation plays an important role in the development and inheritance of scholars’ tradition of quoting The Book of Songs in ancient time.
